Afternoon Festivities

Catapult

Six catapults per SS teacher - Catapults will need to be completed outside of school and must be tested before school. Catapults will be judged on the distance they shoot a Koosh Ball. This is a team event, but teams must be made from students with the same Social Studies Teacher. 

​

Knock down the Castle

All catapults will be used and divided into 4 teams of two catapults each. You will knock down a castle made of boxes using Koosh Balls. The first team to knock down their castle wins.

Assemble The Castle

In this event 6 students will reassemble a castle ( while looking at a picture) after it is knocked down by a team catapult. The first team to reassemble the castle correctly wins.

Stack the Goblets

There will be 3 rounds of 5 students from each team for cup (goblet) stacking. Each member of the relay will need to build a pyramid of 10 cups with a cup on either side and then take them down back into one stack. The team member will then race back to tag the next person. The team that finishes first wins.

 

Chicken Egg Relay

There will be three rounds of the Chicken Egg relay. Each team will have six groups of five students. Each team will be provided with a dodge ball. When the relay begins, the 1st person on each team puts the dodge ball (chicken egg) between their legs and waddles to a box that has been set up a fixed distance away and the drops the egg into the nest.  If necessary, a student may readjust the egg, but if it drops to the floor they are required to start back at the beginning.   The person then runs back and tags the next person.   The first group to successfully complete the relay wins.

 

Potato Race

There will be three rounds of potato race. Each team will have six groups of five students. During each round, one group from each team will race against one another. The goal is to race to a predetermined point holding a potato on a spoon without dropping it and race back to the group. If the potato is dropped, the student must start their leg of the relay over.  The potato and spoon are passed on to the next person, and the race continues. The first group to successfully complete the relay wins.

 

Falconry

There will be 3 rounds of Falconry. Each team will have six groups of five students. Students will use pre-made paper airplanes and will throw them through hula-hoops with different values depending on their difficulty. The team with with most points in their round will win.

 

Sheep Toss

There will be three rounds of the sheep toss. Each team will have six groups of five students and 1 sheep catcher per round. During each round, one group from each team will compete against the other.  The goal is to toss your sheep over your shoulder into the pen without looking. Your team will earn 1 point for each sheep that goes into the pen. Each person on your team gets 1 throw. The group with the most points wins.

 

Steal the Castle Jewels

There will be three rounds of Steal the Castle Jewels. Each team will have six groups of five students. During each round, one group from each team will compete against the other. The goal is to race down the gym, then grab a beaded necklace from the treasure chest, put it around your neck, replace the treasure chest lid, and hand off the necklace to the next teammate.  The first group to finish, wins.

 

Hatchet Relay

There will be three rounds of the Hatchet Relay. Each team will have six groups of five students. During each round students will throw a foam hatchet towards a target.  Every student gets to throw three hatchets. One point will be awarded for each successful throw. The team with the most points wins.

 

Sling Shot

There will be twenty students per team competing in the sling shot. The goal is to knock down  a pyramid of six cans.  Your team will earn points based on who topples the most cans.  The team with the most points wins.

Crossbow

In this event there are  three rounds with ten students per round.  During each round a student shoots  darts from a Nerf  crossbow to knock down a cluster of dragons.  Each student will get to shoot 5 times before the targets are reset.  The team that knocks down the most dragons wins.

Javelin

There will be three rounds of javelin. Each team will have six groups of five students. During each round, one group from each team will compete against the other.  The goal is to throw the javelin (swimming noodle) the farthest.  Your team will earn points based on how far you throw the javelin.  The farthest throw will earn 3 points, the second farthest will earn 2 points,  the third farthest will earn 1 point and the least farthest will receive 0 points.  The team that earns the most points wins.

Joust

There will be three rounds of the jousting relay.  Each team will have six groups of five students.  During each round, one group from each team will race against one another.  The goal is to gallop down the gym to a stool, knock down the knight with a plastic bat, place the knight back on the stool, and gallop back to the group. The student passes the bat and horse to the next person and the race continues. The first group to successfully complete the relay wins.

Peasant Plow

There will be three rounds of the peasant/plow. Each team will have six groups of five pairs of students. Students will race to the end of the gym, around a barrel, and back while one student holds the legs of their partner in a wheelbarrow race. The team that has all five pairs finish first wins.

​

Row, Row, Row Your Boat, Across the Moat

There will be three rounds of Row, Row, Row Your Boat  Across the Moat.   Each team will have six groups of twelve students. Three scooters will be tied together and students will use plungers to row their "boat" down the "moat" which is the length of the gym.   Once the students reach the other side of the gym, a second set of students load the "boat" and row back to the starting point and repeat the process.   The first group to successfully complete the relay wins.
