Catapult Competition

Catapult Event Info

Background:

Each year students are invited to design and build a catapult under the support/direction of their science teacher and with the help of parents. As you have been informed in class, this is in not mandatory. This optional activity gives students the opportunity to be involved in the Medieval Day competitions in May and put their hands-on creativity to work. Students who complete a good working catapult will be rewarded by the science teacher in a way decided by the individual team science teacher.

Goal:

Students will work with their parents or adult outside of school to design a catapult that will either complete in knocking down a castle by rapidly firing at the castle until all cardboard boxes are on the ground OR they will be competing by throwing a catapult ball the farthest distance.

Compliance:

It is absolutely necessary for students and parents to carefully read this hand book. Building a competition catapult is not an easy or inexpensive task. Students should be ready to work with their peers AND MUST work with an adult to build a catapult outside of the classroom.  Not following the direction provided in this rule book will result in disqualification from competition.

Heartbreak:

We DO NOT like to disqualify students when they bring incorrectly designed models, but we have to do it to be fair to the students who follow directions carefully.
